Recently, we’ve seen a whirlwind of global events unfold, starting with the Afghanistan withdrawal and subsequent fall of Kabul, and then the invasion of Ukraine. These events happened quickly but left a massive humanitarian crisis in their wake. Through the generosity of our church community, our Global and US Outreach Ministries are directly serving individuals affected by these major world events.

So far, we have provided meals to Christians in Afghanistan, funds for passage of refugees, and partnered with both Samaritan’s Purse and Convoy of Hope to be the hands and feet of Jesus in the lives of those facing these dire situations.

Our U.S. Outreach team is continuing to care for families here in Loudoun County. We are offering English as a Second Language (ESL) training, and had more than 30 participants including many Afghan refugees and their families.

Afghanistan

Cornerstone Chapel is directly providing resources to assist with relief efforts for the Afghan community.

  • Inside Afghanistan – $8k per month is hand-delivered across the Afghanistan border to provide food and firewood for 150 Christians.  $64,000 given so far and will continue.
  • In Loudoun County our team has:
      • Housed 5 Afghan families
      • Purchased 4 vehicles
      • Supplied essential needs like cooking supplies, bedding, etc.
      • Provided cell phones and laptops
      • Helped more than 35 Afghans in Loudoun
      • $50,000 given so far
  • We plan to continue our assistance as we believe the needs will increase.

Ukraine

Cornerstone Chapel is partnering with other churches and ministries to assist Ukrainian refugees.

  • Our Middle School youth packed 20,000 meals for Convoy of Hope to send to Poland to feed refugees
  • We have a request from one of the groups we are coordinating with to help with $50k of medical supplies to aid Ukrainian refugees in Moldova.
  • We are partnering with Calvary Chapel churches inside Ukraine and across Europe, and they need money to provide housing, medicine, box trucks for food delivery, and more. Financial assistance to these local churches is still greatly needed.
  • Ukrainians are coming across our Southern Border into California.  Those churches are also requesting assistance from us.
