The church at Corinth was relying too much on the wisdom and philosophy of the world. As a result, they were looking more “worldly” than they were “spiritual” inside and outside the church. Paul spends considerable time addressing their problems of divisions, quarreling, immorality, lawsuits, drunkenness, and misunderstandings about marriage, the Lord’s Supper, and spiritual gifts. It’s a “corrective epistle” that is a healthy reminder to the church today-pursue the wisdom of God no matter how foolish it may seem in the eyes of the world!
