In the opening chapter of Ruth we find a family dealing with the hardship of a famine in the land of Israel. In an attempt to escape the famine, they flee to Moab. But was that really God’s will? When adversity strikes, most people react in one of three ways: flight, fright, or fight. This family opted to flee, but things didn’t turn out very well. How do you typically deal with difficulties? Ruth is a beautiful story of love and redemption, but in this first chapter, there are some lessons to learn about handling adversity.
