In the opening chapter of 1 Kings, David is near death. He dies in chapter two at the age of 70 after serving as Israel’s king for 40 years. Just before he dies, there is a battle for his throne between two of his sons-Adonijah and Solomon. Solomon is God’s choice, but Adonijah rebels and “puts himself forward” in an act of sedition and self-exaltation. We can learn some things from Adonijah’s life by looking at three things that he lacked.
